SR Architects Ltd. was commissioned by RUH Bath NHS Trust starting in early 2020 to design, tender and administer construction to refurbish and expand the Breast Care Unit within the main hospital building. Fully charitably funded, this project had been long awaited to enable the service to expand its forward capacity and brighten up its environment for users and staff.  The new extension was added within a partially covered courtyard area adjacent to the existing Breast Care Unit with the remainder of the courtyard revamped to provide an outdoor Peace Garden for users and staff.

The challenge of our design work and the construction delivery lay in accommodating an existing steam pipe and services gantry passing through the courtyard at an elevated level that could not be moved or interrupted during construction.  We developed a solution to enable the gantry to pass through the extension without impacting the clinical rooms below it.
